Before there was a Zeta or an Entropy, there was Howl and Paradox — a pale cream kitten and a ginger one, arriving together and rarely photographed more than a few feet apart since.

The view was shared

Windowsills got claimed jointly from the beginning. Howl stood watch; Paradox took the lower, flatter position directly on the sill, which even then was the more comfortable arrangement. Whatever was outside — a roofline, a stretch of sky, nothing in particular — it got looked at together.

A second opinion on grooming

A hairbrush left out on a desk drew both of them in for inspection — Howl from above, Paradox from below, neither one convinced the other had the right idea about it. A framed photo on the shelf behind them is a very young Izzy, which would make this an early, unplanned preview of the bond that was still to come.

Nap, by color

Most naps ended the same way: curled together on whatever surface was warmest, cream fur against ginger, no visible line between where one cat stopped and the other started. As they got older, they scoped out their own favorite sleep locations, albeit still close by. Find one cat, and you'd usually find the other.
